WHAT ARE WOOD PRODUCTION AND LEAD TIMES?
Wood lead times are typically 6-8 weeks, but may be longer or shorter based on your order specifics and time of year. For current lead time information, you online sales rep will provide current lead times at the time of purchase.
RUSTIC WOOD QUALITIES
All wood species naturally vary in color, texture, and density. These variations are expected and considered acceptable. Our wood stains are VOC-free and tannin-reactive, designed to interact with the wood’s natural tannins to create a weathered appearance with organic highs, lows, and rich color variation.
Rustic, knotty wood will contain knots, which are not considered defects. The location, size, and quantity of knots are unpredictable and part of the wood’s natural character. Split ends may occur during milling and transport—please account for this by ordering an additional 15–20% to ensure coverage.
Doors: Knots smaller than a nickel will be filled. Larger knots will remain unfilled and are not considered defects.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR TONGUE AND GROOVE or SHIPLAP SIDING
When ordering shiplap and tongue & groove siding, you will want to use the actual measurements to determine coverage of each board and how many sticks to buy. We always recommend working with a professional on the job site to measure for your project. The nominal and actual sizes are listed below.

ORDERING GUIDELINES AND WASTE FACTOR
Due to the natural characteristics of wood, customers should plan to order 15–20% more material than the exact project measurements. Wood is inherently imperfect—especially rustic wood, which may include knots, split ends, and other organic variations. These are not considered defects.
On-site trimming is common and contributes to the expected waste factor. Pre-finished wood is stained using Dingewood’s all-natural, VOC-free, tannin-reactive stains. Because tannin levels vary even within the same species, color tones may differ from batch to batch. For this reason, we strongly recommend ordering enough wood to complete your entire project at once. Dingewood cannot guarantee color consistency across separate orders.
Please measure your space carefully and include the estimated waste factor in your order. Tannin variation will naturally create highs and lows in color, and split ends are typical. Planning ahead with a 15–20% buffer helps ensure a smooth installation and consistent results.

WHAT IS WOOD ACCLIMATION?
Proper acclimation of your pre-weathered wood is essential to ensure long-term performance and stability. DINGEWOOD ships from Utah—a dry, high-altitude desert region—so your wood may experience changes when introduced to different climates.
Because wood is a natural material, it responds to environmental moisture: it can absorb humidity in damp climates or contract in drier ones. Finely milled products such as siding, flooring, and box beams are especially sensitive to these changes.
To minimize the risk of shrinking, warping, or cracking, allow your wood to acclimate to your local environment for a minimum of two weeks before installation. In humid or coastal regions, a longer acclimation period may be necessary.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR A SLIDING BARN DOOR
Measuring correctly is key to ensuring your barn door fits well and functions smoothly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you plan:
Step 1: Measure the Opening
Pro Tip: Order Early! If you're ordering a custom door, allow time for production and shipping. And if you're unsure about sizing, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help you double-check your measurements.
Step 1: Measure the Opening
- Width: Measure the inside of the door opening from edge to edge.
- Height: Measure from the top of the opening to the floor.
- Add 2–4 inches to the width (1–2 inches on each side) for overlap.
- Add 1–2 inches to the height so the door sits slightly above the opening.
- This extra coverage helps block light, sound, and gaps around the edges.
- Track Mounting: Make sure there’s enough space above the opening and below any trim or crown molding to mount the sliding track.
- Door Clearance: Check that the door won’t hit light switches, outlets, or nearby furniture when it slides open.
Pro Tip: Order Early! If you're ordering a custom door, allow time for production and shipping. And if you're unsure about sizing, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help you double-check your measurements.
HOW TO MEASURE AN EXISTING BEAM FOR A NEW BOX BEAM

Measure the Existing Beam
Bottom Width: Measure the width across the bottom of the beam.
Pro Tips:

Measure the Existing Beam
Bottom Width: Measure the width across the bottom of the beam.
- ➤ Add 1½ inches to this measurement to account for the thickness of the two side panels (¾ inch each).
- Example: If the bottom of the beam measures 6 inches, your bottom panel should be 7½ inches wide.
- ➤ Add ¾ inch to each side to account for the thickness of the bottom panel.
- Example: If the side of the beam measures 6 inches tall, each side panel should be 6¾ inches tall.
Pro Tips:
- Always measure in multiple spots—beams can vary slightly in size.
- Use plywood or MDF panels that are straight and stable to avoid warping.
- Dry-fit your panels before final installation to ensure everything lines up.

BOX BEAMS CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
DINGEWOOD box beams are custom-built in either L-shape or U-shape configurations, based on the customer’s specifications and installation needs.
Each beam is routered with a locking miter joint, allowing the individual pieces to interlock securely. This precision joinery helps camouflage seams and creates a clean, seamless appearance once assembled.
Beams are shipped with excess length to allow for on-site trimming. This ensures a snug fit against walls, ceilings, or other architectural features. We recommend dry-fitting the beam before final installation to confirm alignment and make any necessary adjustments.

BOX BEAM LENGTH NOTICE
For shipping and handling purposes, box beams longer than 10 feet are typically split into two sections lengthwise. These sections are designed to be fitted together seamlessly upon arrival.
This approach helps prevent damage during transit and allows for easier installation. A visible seam may be present where the sections join, but the locking miter joint construction helps minimize its appearance.
Please refer to the photo below for an example of a beam seam.
